Brasserie Harkema

Nes 67

A new landmark, this former tobacco factory has titillated the local scene with its sense of designer space, excellent wines and a kitchen that stays open late pumping out reasonably priced French classics.

Very flash and stylish interior, but Harkema fails miserably on service. Make sure you order all your drink in one go, because you won't be serviced later on. The waiters cluster together to chat instead of watching their areas. The staff are too few, and they don't have the skills needed to run such a large restaurant. Posted on Oct 30 2008 10:38

This is a pimped up MacDonald's. The bad service and okay food is not worth the high prices. Posted on Oct 29 2008 20:27

I have been to Harkema on numerous occasions over the past few years with various companions, hoping matters would improve, but every time the food has been quite awful - over-salted yet bland, often cold and unrecognisable, and on several occasions simply not what I ordered. Add to that slow, poor service. I have no idea why it is considered popular, as it is the worst restaurant I know in Amsterdam. Not to be recommended. Posted on Jul 22 2008 16:49

I have always enjoyed good service and a pleasant atmosphere here. Food is good, simple and reasonably priced. Service is sometimes somewhat sturdy until you get to know the waiters. Don't expect the 'Hi, I am Marcia and I will be your waiter this evening...' routine. Posted on Jun 24 2008 12:28

If you want to go to an "in" place then go to Harkema. However, you won't get your table and are sent to the bar where the waiter will take 10 minutes to come to you, the tables are small and space limited unless your a skinny model. The food is nice but not over the top, the wine list is broad but expensive and you don't know who to ask to get anything. Basically okay but Amsterdam has many better places to offer! This is quite simply the worst restaraunt I have ever set foot in. The flashy interior hides utterly unacceptable customer service and guaranteed cold food. Both times I have gone have been special occasions and both been utterly spolied Posted on Feb 11 2008 11:07

We went as a large group (twice, we did not learn our lesson the first time!) .Service may be different for an individual table but I am not willing to give them this chance. Service for groups is absolutley diabolical. It took over an hour for the first drinks to arrive, 1.5 hours for starters and the main course was lukewarm at best when it arrived after 2.5 hours and was completely cold when accompanying veg turned up 15 mins later. I will never go there again. Posted on Feb 11 2008 10:52
