Hotels

As a port town, Bastia is blessed with many cheap hotels, though little in the way of luxury. One exception is the ritzy Ostella (avenue Sampiero Corso, Sortie Sud Bastia, 04 95 30 97 70, www.hotel-ostella.com, €64-€110), with luxurious rooms, and treatments at its spa and massage centre. Another is the Hôtel Pietracap (Route de San Martino, 04 95 31 64 63, www.hotel-pietracap.com, €75-€155, closed Dec-March), set in luxurious gardens a five-minute drive from central Bastia.

Les Voyageurs (9 avenue Maréchal Sebastiani, 04 95 34 90 80, www.hotel-lesvoyageurs.com, €60-€80) is cheaper than the above but still manages to be one of the more stylish hotels in Corsica; it’s only a stroll from the train station and 500 feet from the Vieux Port.

The Hôtel Central (3 rue Miot, 04 95 31 71 12, www.centralhotel.fr, €55-€90) and the Hôtel Posta-Vecchia (quai des martyrs de la libération, 04 95 32 32 38, www.hotel-postavecchia.com, €40-€85) are the pick of the budget options, the former with old-fashioned furnishings, the latter with sea views. For relaxation, a short, cheap bus journey from town brings you to the Hotel Castel’Brando (Erbalunga, 04 95 30 10 30, www.castelbrando.com, €99-€199, closed Jan-Feb), in the picturesque fishing village of Erbalunga. It has a pool and access to a host of nearby outdoor activities.
