Take a local DSB train north of Copenhagen to Humlebæk for the impressive Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (49 19 07 19, www.louisiana.dk), where the excellent collection of paintings, sculpture and graphic arts includes works by some of Europe’s finest artists like Picasso, Henry Moore and Kandinsky. Alternatively, Kronborg Slot, which was the inspiration for Hamlet’s Elsinore, is a 50-minute train journey north in Helsingør. Or you can visit Hans Christian Andersen’s modest birthplace in Odense (65 51 46 01), a 90-minute train journey from Central Station, or the HC Andersens Barndomshjem museum (66 51 46 01).
