Nightlife

You’ll find a small but friendly nightlife scene in Copenhagen, with a generally laid-back attitude. Copenhagen’s cafés and bars fulfil a variety of functions, many transforming through the course of the day, becoming more bar-like or changing into proper restaurants. For jazz, visit Copenhagen JazzHouse (Niels Hemmingsens Gade 10, 33 15 26 00, www.jazzhouse.dk), while a good, flirty bar is Dan Turèll (Store Regnegade 3-5, 33 14 10 47), named after the hard-living and early-dying writer who would doubtless be delighted to have a bar named after him. Café Europa (Amagertorv 1, 33 14 28 89) is popular with young Copenhageners, while the place to be seen is Café Victor (Ny Østergade 8, 33 13 36 13). Neck some cheap beer at Studenterhuset (Kobmergade 52, 35 32 38 61, www.studenterhuset.ku.dk) before taking wing to Pussy Galore’s Flying Circus (Sankt Hans Torv 30, 35 24 53 00) for the night.

In terms of clubs, if you go nowhere else, check out Rust (Guldbergsgade 8, 35 24 52 00, www.rust.dk) and Vega (Enghavevej 40, 33 25 70 11, www.vega.dk). These two venues have long dominated the club scene. Apart from the big two, there’s Aura (Rådhusstræde 4, 33 36 50 60, www.resaurantaura.dk), a restaurant and DJ bar, Park Café (Østerbrogade 79, 35 42 62 48, www.parkcafe.dk) or Stereo Bar (Linnésgade 16A, 33 13 61 13, www.stereobar.dk).
