With almost uninterrupted daylight, Helsinki celebrates Juhannus (Midsummer) in June with bonfires and festivities. The Helsinki Festival takes place in August, including the ‘Night of Arts’ with street performances until dawn. The Baltic Herring Market has been celebrated in Market Square (Kauppatori) in October for over 200 years, while December is a time of traditional Christmas markets and the Lucia Parade to the Lutheran Cathedral.
