The area around Aleksanterinkatu and Esplanadi offers the finest of Finnish design – at prices to make you wince. Marimekko (fashion), Artek (furniture), Aarikka and Kalevala Koru (jewellery) and Designor (homeware) are all in this area. There’s even a Moomin Shop in the Kamp Galleria for fans of Finland’s famous cartoon characters. If that isn’t enough then Helsinki’s famous Stockmann department store stocks just about everything, while Market Square’s open-air market (Monday to Saturday) sells anything from fresh seafood to knitted jumpers.
