Like its capital, Slovenia is diverse and extremely compact. Rent a car and you’ll find the roads user-friendly; otherwise, the trains from the central station are cheap and reliable. Venture into the countryside and you’ll find a medieval village around every corner, including the spectacularly picturesque town of Bled. There is also great skiing at Kranjska Gora, Maribor and Krvavec. The season runs from Dec to late Feb, and equipment is available for hire.
