Nightlife |
While the many bars in the old town are always buzzing, even the most blinkered Slovene could not claim that Ljubljana is at the vanguard of Europe’s clubbing scene. Still, there’s enough going on to keep visiting night owls happy. The dancefloors are fuelled, in the main, by techno, R&B, pop and rock. If you like it urban and gritty, visit Metelkova Mesto (432 3378, www.metelkova.org), which also hosts countless international art and music festivals. In town, Global (Tomsiceva 1, 426 9017), situated at the top of the Nama department store, offers a great view of the city; the terrace can also be enjoyed in the day when it opens as a bar/restaurant. Look out for international music stars scheduled to stop by on the Balkan leg of their world tours, as it can be a great chance to see the likes of Lou Reed performing for a fraction of what it would cost at home. Check www.ljubljana-tourism.si for forthcoming events.
