Shopping

Huaihai Lu is lined with stores, from the overpriced walk-in advertisements that are the top end western brand stores, through old pre-reform era department stores, to up-and-coming Chinese clothing brands at bargain basement prices. Xiangyang Market (at the junction of Xiangyang Lu and Huaihai Lu) is the place to head for if you are after cheap clothes, with a healthy smattering of ripped off and often misspelt big name brands. Alternatively head over to the Fabric Market (Dongjiadulu near the intersection with Waitan, the Bund- open everyday from 9am to 4pm) and get yourself something made for cheap, or try Dongtai Lu Market (Dongtai Lu, near Liuhe Lu) for antique-ish knick-knacks.
